FINAL TRANSCRIPTION OF LEAD OBSERVER’S AUDIO JOURNAL

[Start of recording.]

Progress Report 684 on Batch 43 of Homosapiens on Planet 8547-E, Codename: Earth.

My scientific temperament has gone as far as it can, and I am now suffused with an immeasurable loathing for my former subjects. I admit, I am unable to further involve myself in the innumerable experiments that will follow. So, if it is not already apparent to all reading this, consider these my final notes on the project and my resignation.

I have dedicated too much of my life to this project and I find I am exhausted by the monotony of what comes with what I truly believe to be a futile cause.

Against my better judgment and much to the chagrin of my colleagues, I have developed an emotional bias towards this latest iteration of humans.

I truly despise them.

I am unconvinced that they can be more than the beasts that I’ve had the displeasure of observing and studying over the last several centuries.

While they vastly differ from us in societal structure and cultural behavior, we still share physiological traits with them that cannot be denied: Diversity of facial and bodily features, various appearances related to where in the world they hail from, and we even reproduce the same. Nothing, but a pane of glass has separated us for all these millennia and only now do I see that it is a mirror, reflecting a haunting image of us that I can no longer bear to look at.

From tadpoles to titans, I have watched them closely from above, through the gossamer of the clouds. The ground they walk has become corroded and vapid under their weight. The skies, dotted with the cold blinking of machinery eyes, hang loose and gray over their kingdoms of sinuous steel.

Oh, and the mighty oceans, once lush with the gift of life have gone sour and repugnant beneath their stench.

Batch 43 has proven that their hunger is without satiation and even in the face of natural backlash, they have shown an impressive, yet malicious resolve against heeding any kind of warning.

Disasters and vigorous climate upheaval have been clear signs for them to change their ways. Some voices hear the cry of the planet, but the majority are complacent with ignoring the whimpering ecological order around them. They would rather turn a blind eye than face the horrid reality of the carnage that they have wrought.

They scurry about the planet ceaselessly agitated by trials and tribulations of their own making. Their endeavors are both pointless yet simultaneously necessary to keep them from the brink of death and insanity. I’ve noticed that their actions and reactions are cyclical. Constantly folding in on themselves and repeating the same missteps despite being warned by their predecessors. It is easier for them to point the finger than it is to offer a helping hand.

Unfortunately, many of them see no helping hand, only the fist. They succumb to the weight of an existence they did not ask for and would most likely decide against if given a proper choice. They fight to survive, to live, to make a life out of the infinite nothingness that they are burdened with at birth. The suffering is made even more potent when they realize how alone they truly are.

Their willful ignorance of life outside of their bubble corrals them into a childlike battle for recognition. Without question, they destroy one another and their homes for a taste of infamy to placate their fear of being alone.

They can barely rely on one another for anything and that is possibly the most infuriating thing about them.

They seek purpose in the grand chaos of a culture that they created but does not cater to all of them. Most of them subsist in depravity while others drown themselves in delusions of grandeur. Their true leaders, the ones they sometimes refuse to see or believe in, revel in their influence and are the only ones with the power to change things. These powerful few tease and prod the “lesser” with possibilities and opportunities to one day achieve their power.

Some do achieve it. However, for most, they never get to bask in the light of a life worth living.

Countless times throughout their history I have witnessed homosapiens with true power choose willingly to squander it over frivolous things.

Property. People. Power. All these things are prioritized over the good of their kind.

And they will look out of their lofty towers, scoff, and turn their noses up at people who they say don’t try enough.

It is maddeningly dismal the way they treat each other. Revolting.

They are both the architects and the inhabitants of their hardships. Bathing in war and incivility, the homo-sapiens have, again, grown cruel and repulsive not only towards each other but also in the face of change or diversity whether positive or negative.

They are the exact opposite of the desired global outcome. They do not even come close to it and it is time to move on to the next.

[Dead air for forty-five seconds.]

Perhaps I have been at this for too long and only now are my eyes finally open to the truth. The inhabitants of this Earth and all the Earths from before can never be a perfect species. No such thing exists, and we are all fools for thinking we could make such a thing. I wished so badly that they could be better as a civilization and live up to the potential that I know must exist in them somewhere.

But they will never make that discovery. Not this batch.

Perhaps the next, but I refuse to stick around and wait for disappointment.

The experiment was a failure. The point of the project was to understand the evolution of our species. But these monstrosities could never evolve to become us. Batch 43, while the most progressive, continues to lack the cornerstone characteristic of our society: Compassion. Without it, they will continue to destroy their world and themselves. I refuse to continue to be a part of this hopeful façade and leave the trial to another soul optimistic enough to be delusional.

In conclusion, if there is any respect left in my peers for my professional opinion then I hope they will agree with my decision.

Batch 43 of domesticated homo-sapiens on Codename: Earth is deemed inadequate for further study and experimentation. Essential operatives should be evacuated immediately to prevent further collateral damage.

Planetary evisceration is now scheduled to commence.

[End of recording.]
